Nicosia: The State's software system is attacked daily by "malicious internet intruders", the well-known hackers, who, however, have begun to find it difficult for several months now as the special IT team of the Internal Audit Service managed to identify the "holes" in a timely manner and set up barriers.
The problem was identified when the Internal Audit Service began studying and evaluating the security controls of the internal network of the Citizen Service Centers.
The experts' findings were alarming, as it was determined that the system was easily accessible to hackers and they could change important data in the state's archives at any time.
For example, cases were identified that referred to the alteration of personal data, resulting in people who were not beneficiaries of free healthcare obtaining hospital cards, or people who had "negotiations" with the Social Welfare Services managing to trick the system by changing their -mainly- financial- data.
Naturally, these findings by the IEE technicians caused intense concern and so, after cooperation with both the KEP and other state agencies, the software began to be changed and barriers were introduced where deemed necessary
The system, as the Superintendent of Internal Audit, Andreas Lambrianou, told "Φ",
is frequently attacked by hackers. However, these attacks can be dealt with by the specialized IT Unit, which is the only one of its kind in the entire public service.
