Windows 8.1 premieres today in Greece

Windows 8.1 premieres today in GreeceThe upgrade brings back the familiar "Start" button and enables the PC to boot directly to the desktop.

Windows 8.1, the upgrade to Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system, is available in our country from today. Those who have Windows 8 installed on their PC or tablet can "download" the new version for free via the internet. New computers and tablet PCs that will already integrate Windows 8.1 "off the shelf" will also start being sold immediately.

For the upgrade, the American company took into account the criticism it has received for its operating system. Thus, until now, a frequent complaint has been the central role of the Start Screen (also known as Modern UI) – the second user interface, with its own applications, which was included in Windows 8 along with the familiar desktop, so that the operating system now supports touch screens, in addition to keyboard and mouse.

The central role of the new environment meant that the desktop was degraded, since the familiar "Start" button had been removed from it, while as soon as Windows 8 "loaded", it was forced to display the Modern UI.

Windows 8.1 fixes both limitations, making the desktop more reminiscent of older versions of the operating system and allowing a user to essentially bypass the new user interface.

The update also brings a revamped Modern UI, with more customization options and the ability to view multiple apps on the screen at the same time. It also improves general Windows 8 features, such as search, which returns results from your computer, apps, and the web.

Windows 8 is the first operating system designed for both PCs and tablets. Although it sold 100 million units within six months of its October 2012 release, several analysts say it has failed to revive PC sales as many manufacturers had hoped.
