The new Gmail for Android has…spam!

Here's something we can't say we expected, but it doesn't surprise us either: The new version of Google's Gmail app for Android devices will also contain ads for users, in order to generate revenue for the company!The new Gmail for Android has...spam!

The application has not yet been made available to all Android users, but it is expected to appear in our Google Play updates by the end of the week . According to experienced analysts who have been “scrutinizing” the code of the new app, Google has integrated advertisements that will be displayed to the user, while until now the platform was offered “for free”. This is changing and, according to the same reports, the advertisements will not exist in the form of banners or similar, but will arrive like our well-known spam mails! And of course they will not go to the spam folder…

The reports come from Android Police and TheDroidGuy, but of course they are not officially confirmed, so far. Typical code snippets that betray the existence of ads are the following:

com/google/android/gm/ads/

<string name=”ad”>AD</string>

<string name=”ad_will_not_save”>Will not save ad as message</string>

<string name=”ad_will_save”>Will save ad as message</string>

<string name=”ad_dismissed”>Ad dismissed</string>

showAdvertisementStarToast()

showAdPreferenceManager()

getAdvertisementSenderName()

gmailspam3

It remains to be seen whether Google has actually implemented this model in its Gmail app and the reaction of users. Beyond that, the new version (4.6) also brings some changes to the interface and functionality of the application, such as new icons for your contacts who do not have their own photo/avatar and the notification of “unsent”messages that were not sent due to connection interruption, large size, bug, etc. These are welcome, which is something that does not happen, unfortunately, with the removal of the “cancel” button in the window that confirms the sending of an e-mail. Only the “send” option appears, so if you want to cancel the sending, you have to press the “back” button on your device. Now what is the usefulness of this change, we really can’t even imagine.

Whether Google Ads reach Gmail or not, be ready...
