Batteries with integrated Bluetooth
Many devices have the ability to be turned on and off remotely with the help of a smartphone. To allow this remote control, it usually means they are equipped with Wi-Fi.
However, this capability could theoretically be provided to any product that is powered by batteries, with the appropriate accessory. This accessory has already been designed and is called Batthead.
These are batteries that allow the activation of devices via the mobile phone. They are standard, rechargeable NiMH AA-sized batteries, each of which incorporates a Bluetooth Smart Chip so that it «communicates» with the mobile phone or tablet.
Additionally, they have an accelerometer to detect when they move. Thus, they could be placed, for example, on a flashlight so that it turns on when we catch it, or on other devices that turn off when not in use.
The Battheads are in the process of developing the prototype unit and the corresponding iOS and Android app. The creators are seeking funding through Kickstarter.
