Germany: Student arrested for DDOS attack on government website

Officers from Germany's Cybercrime Suppression Center (4C) have arrested an 18-year-old student suspected of attacking the official website of the state of Saxony-Anhalt with distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks.

According to Taz.de, the hacker admitted to carrying out the attack. However, he has not revealed his motive, according to a spokesman for the authorities.

Police searched the student's home in Hamburg and seized several items. Authorities say the hacker left digital traces that led them to him. This likely means he launched the DDOS attack without hiding his real IP, which would allow investigators to easily uncover his identity.

The attack took place in late August. The website was down for several hours. Furthermore, the site administrators were unable to upload content for days.
