The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, although initially gaining traction thanks to its impressive anti-reflective screen, is now facing serious problems with the durability of this coating.
Less than a year after its release, many users are reporting that the anti-reflective coating is showing signs of wear, especially in areas most frequently used for scrolling and at the edges of the screen.

The coating, which ensures a clearer, glare-free image, appears to be wearing down much faster than expected. A user on X (formerly Twitter), @xeetechcare, posted images that reveal peeling at the edges of the screen and visible scratches on the surface. He stressed that the phone was not exposed to common causes of wear and tear, such as keys or coins, ruling out the possibility of external damage.

It seems that the anti-reflective coating, due to its softer nature compared to the glass underneath, is vulnerable to minor scratches and scuffs. Notebookcheck's Hannes Brecher comments that the coating's sensitivity may explain why so many users are experiencing this issue so soon after purchasing the device.

So far, Samsung has not made an official statement about the issue, leaving owners of the device uncertain as to whether the damage is covered by warranty or if it is a manufacturing defect. User communities have reported that the wear may be related to the “oleophobic” coating, which Samsung considers normal wear and tear and is not covered under warranty.
In the meantime, users are urged to clean the screen only with a microfiber cloth and avoid using cleaners that could worsen the problem.

Although a screen protector can further limit wear, it may reduce the performance of the anti-reflective coating, constituting a temporary compromise.
