Google Gemini chatbot can now remember things like information about your life, work, and personal preferences.

As noted by posts on X (and on Google’s official account), a “memory” feature has begun rolling out to some Gemini users. Like ChatGPT, Gemini’s memory adds context to the current conversation. For example, tell Gemini to remember the foods you like, and the next time you ask the bot for restaurant recommendations, it can tailor its suggestions to your culinary tastes.

Memory is available only to subscribers of the Google One AI Premium program at $20 per month, according to 9to5Google, and it has not yet reached the Gemini apps on iOS and Android — only on the web client.
In the Gemini UI, Google provides some examples of potentially useful startup reminders, such as “Use simple language and avoid jargon,” “I can only code in JavaScript,” and “When planning a trip, include per-day costs.” The company clarifies that this feature, which currently only supports prompts in English, can be turned off at any time. However, the reminders are stored until manually deleted.

But Gemini memories are not used for training . “Your stored information is never shared or used to train the model,” a Google spokesperson told TechCrunch via email.

Memory features like ChatGPT and Gemini can be exploited if they aren't carefully designed with guardrails. This year, a security researcher found that hackers could secretly embed "fake" memories into ChatGPT to steal user data
