Last month, YouTube, the world's most popular sharing , announced that a slew of new features and improvements would be coming to the app in the coming weeks. Some, like new playback speed controls, have already been released. Now, there's another small update coming to YouTube users, and it concerns the bottom bar icons.

A recent report reveals that the updated bottom bar icons are now available to most YouTube users on both Android and iOS. While the navigation layout remains unchanged, four out of five icons have received a refresh. Overall, the icons now feature thicker outlines compared to their previous versions.

As you can see, YouTube has made some tweaks to its bottom bar icons. The “plus” symbol for creating content is now in a gray circle with no border. The subscriptions icon is more streamlined, with a shallower design and more rounded edges. The Home icon has also been revamped, offering a cleaner, more noticeable design. Meanwhile, the shorts now features thicker lines. The You tab remains unchanged.
The updated bottom bar of icons is now rolling out with YouTube for Android version 19.45 and is also available on iOS and the web. While this change may be under the radar for many as it's not a major update , I think the new look makes the bottom bar look a bit more polished compared to its previous design.

In other YouTube news, the app is testing some bigger changes that may not be to everyone’s taste. For example, it’s working on a TikTok-like swipe gesture to skip to the next video. The app is also experimenting with AI-generated music remixes. On the brighter side, though, YouTube has decided to bring back the controversial PiP mini-player, bringing back the old one that users preferred.
