Sonos seems to think its mobile app has reached a sufficient level to move forward with the launch of new products, so today it announced the Arc Ultra and Sub 4 .

The Arc Ultra, priced at $999, is a more powerful version of the original Arc and is the first Sonos product to incorporate innovative technology from Mayht, a startup that Sonos acquired in 2022. Sonos calls it “Sound Motion” and claims that this technology allows the Arc Ultra to deliver richer and even more immersive sound than its predecessor.

The company promotes Sound Motion by describing it as "one of the most important breakthroughs in audio engineering in the last 100 years," adding that it "unlocks greater clarity, depth, and balance than ever before, from such a sleek soundbar.".
The Arc Ultra has a total of fourteen drivers — three more than the Arc — including seven tweeters, six mid-woofers, and a built-in Sound Motion woofer. Sonos says this new soundbar is capable of delivering 9.1.4 sound on its own. Additionally, the Arc Ultra promises clearer dialogue thanks to an “advanced version of Speech Enhancement.” It will also support Trueplay EQ tuning, including for Android users, and will offer Bluetooth audio streaming, something the original Arc lacked.

Like other Sonos soundbars, the Arc Ultra can be paired with the company’s Sonos Ace headphones for private listening from any input device connected to the Ultra. Alongside the new soundbar, Sonos is also introducing its latest full-size subwoofer, the Sub 4, which now features a sleek matte finish.
A few months ago, Sonos CEO Patrick Spence announced that the company was postponing the launch of two products in order to focus on improving the performance of its revised app for Android and iOS. Earlier this month, Sonos unveiled a multi-pronged plan to restore customer trust and ensure that a disaster like the app’s early launch doesn’t happen again.

“We’ve reached a level of quality that gives us the confidence to launch our great new products,” Spence said in a press release today. Sonos announced that a new app update, tied to the launch of Arc Ultra, is expected to improve the software, surpassing the previous version’s performance in critical metrics. According to the company, 90 percent of the old app will be restored with the upcoming update.
