As part of a partnership with Microsoft's Azure AI Speech, caller ID app Truecaller will allow users to create an AI version of their voice to answer calls.

Truecaller is an app that identifies and blocks unwanted calls. Now the service will allow users who have access to AI Assistant to record their voice. And that's where Microsoft's Azure AI Speech comes into play, which will use the recorded clip to create an AI version of the user's voice.

“This groundbreaking capability not only adds a touch of familiarity and comfort to users, but also demonstrates the power of artificial intelligence in transforming the way we interact with our digital assistants,” says Truecaller Chief Product Officer and General Manager Raphael Mimoun.
Truecaller’s AI Assistant screens incoming calls and informs users about the reason for the call. Customers can then decide how to answer: by picking up the phone or asking the assistant to answer. The Assistant is only available in select countries and was first introduced in the Truecaller app in 2022.

Users have always had the option to choose from a set of pre-defined voices to represent them. However, creating an AI voice that resembles the users’ actual voice offers a greater level of personalization. Azure AI Speech helps with this. Microsoft says, however, that the personal voice is available on a limited basis and only for specific use cases, such as voice assistants.

In the future, we may see more companies using AI voice technology in various aspects of communication. It will be interesting to see how this capability evolves and transforms the way we interact with technology and each other. Truecaller's latest feature is just a glimpse of what the future holds for integrating AI into our daily lives.
