Apple yesterday released a firmware update for the USB-C Apple Pencil released last year. The new firmware version has version number 10M6060, up from 10M5164. On the device, the updated firmware version number will be 37377.37377.16.0.

There is no mention of features, fixes or updates that may be included in the new firmware release, and Apple does not provide release notes for Apple Pencil software versions.

The USB-C Apple Pencil compared with the Apple Pencil 2 is almost identical, but is smaller in size and has a hidden USB-C port for charging and pairing. It can't pair and charge wirelessly and lacks some of the features available on the more expensive Apple Pencil models, such as Pressure Sensitivity with a natural response to pressure, from a gentle touch to a more intense pressure and Double Tap for switching tools.

Apple does not have an established procedure for updating its hardware, but in the case of USB-C, connecting it to a USB-C port is a matter of iPad with a USB-C cable and turning on the iPad should be enough to encourage downloading the update.
