Last year, rumors were widely circulating that the iPhone 15 would feature an all-new design with capacitive buttons. However, these efforts were forced to be scrapped due to manufacturing challenges just months before the iPhone 15 was officially launched

According to a report today by Economic Daily News, Apple has placed a significant order with Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, heralding the integration of capacitive buttons in the iPhone 16 this year. The order in question concerns an advanced system-on-a-package unit, which is expected to replace the physical buttons on the sides of the iPhone 16 with capacitive technology.

In Apple's new model, additional Taptic Engine systems will be added to each side, with the aim of providing users with vibration feedback when pressing the capacitive buttons.

The report explains:

“Apple requires the use of at least two system to integrate components like capacitive buttons and the Taptic Engine, in order to remove physical buttons. This means that the volume and function that have been used on iPhones for years will be replaced.”
