New York City just announced the construction of the largest EV charging station next to JFK.
Wildflower , a New York City - based firm specializing in developing urban infrastructure for sustainability, has been selected by the New York City Economic Development Authority (NYCEDC) to build the largest public electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the city.

The JFK Airport electric vehicle (EV) charging station will be built on a 2.3-acre site between Nassau Expressway and Rockaway Boulevard. It will initially provide 65 EV chargers, including 12 DC fast- chargers , and will be accessible 24/7. It is designed to easily accommodate the growing demand for EVs, including charging infrastructure for the growing number of electric trucks serving the airport’s nearby freight and shipping hubs.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2025, with the EV charging station initially providing charging for 1,000 vehicles per year. After that, electrical cables will be installed throughout the area to create new charging stations.
The new charging station will relieve parking stress in the JFK North area and strengthen Southeast Jamaica and the surrounding areas in Queens as a charging hub.
Ydanis Rodriguez, commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation, said this development will bring a significant number of EV chargers that will support the energy of the future for electric vehicles and advance Mayor Eric Adams' investment to build over 20 EV charging stations across the city.
