According to the UAE Cybersecurity Council, in 2023, over 50,000 cyberattacks were prevented daily by the UAE.
These findings, which emerged from a report by Frost & Sullivan (F&S), are a testament to the evolving cybersecurity in the region – and highlight the growing threats that accompany it.

As the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) continues to grow, F&S estimates it will triple in value to $13.4 billion by 2030. Countries in the region continue to reduce their dependence on oil exports, seeking digital tools and technologies.
The Middle East is preparing to address cyber threats
In the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, technology adoption has increased in the finance and healthcare, further reinforcing the need for cybersecurity and strong regulatory frameworks.
Issues related to awareness, a lack of skilled professionals, and a lack of clarity among businesses about proactively combating cyberattacks contribute to current challenges with increased reliance on technology.
In response to these industry-wide gaps and with technological transformation unfolding globally, Middle Eastern countries are making significant efforts to strengthen their presence in cyberspace. By establishing dedicated cyber departments and innovation centers, promoting awareness through educational campaigns and training programs, and fostering entrepreneurship through cybersecurity conferences, the region is equipping the younger generation and bridging the existing skills gap.
According to the ITU Global Cybersecurity Index 2020, Saudi Arabia ranked second and the UAE ranked fifth out of 194 countries. This indicates that both countries have taken extensive regulatory measures. As a result, they have become destinations of choice for academics, businesses, research and innovation. The UAE government is establishing the first national Cyber Pulse Innovation Center at Abu Dhabi Polytechnic University to upgrade professionals in the field.

Developing a resilient stance against cyberattack
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain have established the National Cyber Security Authority, the National Electronic Security , and the National Cyber Security Center. These authorities are active in overseeing ongoing cybersecurity efforts.
