Joshua Adam Schulte, a former CIA software engineer , was sentenced to 40 years in prison for transmitting classified documents to WikiLeaks and possessing child pornography.

Former CIA engineer Joshua Schulte was convicted of leaking information that endangered U.S. national security. The information included methods for gathering foreign intelligence against America’s adversaries, including an arsenal of cyber weapons and “zero-day” practices that made it possible to hack cars, smart TVs, web browsers and widely used desktop and mobile operating systems.
The leak, known as the “digital Pearl Harbor,” caused huge financial damage, costing millions of dollars and putting CIA agents at risk. The perpetrator was arrested for possession of child sexual abuse material, who also attempted to pass information to WikiLeaks. According to the Justice Department, his goal was to disrupt diplomatic relations and weaken the influence of the United States worldwide.
