Skylight, the smart photo frame company, is introducing a new version of its Skylight, a smart family calendar. The Skylight Cal Max works just like the current model, but features a slimmer, refreshed design and an impressive 27-inch display. It's available for pre-order today starting at $599 and will ship in June, according to the company.

Cal Max nearly doubles the size of the existing 15-inch Skylight Calendar, which is dedicated to displaying multiple calendars with a familiar design and syncing with online services to keep everything up to date. An improved 27-inch touchscreen display with increased resolution (2560 x 1440 QHD compared to 1920 x 1080 HD), provides more space and better quality to easily see everyone's schedules at a glance.
A new anti-glare screen bezel and interchangeable bezels are designed to help the device better match your home decor. Options will include a classic white or black bezel and an aluminum shadow box bezel. The bezels can be swapped out if you want to change things up, and will go on sale in June when the product. The shadow box option costs $629, an increase of $30.
I've tried the current version of Skylight Calendar on the 15-inch – which has the same features, just with a smaller design and no anti-glare screen – and so far I find it to be the best solution I've tried for having a place where all members of the household can view and manage their schedules.
While smart displays like the Echo Show can display your calendar, the trick with Skylight is that it simply displays the calendar all the time.
This device isn't a fancy smart display like an Echo Show or a Nest Hub, meaning no one can binge-watch a show instead of reviewing their day's events. It's a dedicated device for your calendar. There are a few other related features — task boards, meal planning, and to-do lists — but the calendar is the main event. You can also have a photo gallery display if you want, though that requires a $39 annual subscription after the first year.

Beyond visibility, another great feature of Skylight Calendar is that you can edit and add events right on the device. You can also scroll through the day and week and see everyone’s calendar at once. The interface is very similar to the Google Calendar and also allows for color coding for different calendars.
Skylight works with most major services like Google, Apple, and Outlook calendars, or you can create your own calendars using its service and also manage them through the Skylight smartphone app.
While the $300 15-inch model I tested can deliver five to seven days and about eight hours of workdays at a time, I can see the larger version being useful for larger families or those still in the early stages of a lot of extracurricular activities.
The Skylight Cal Max is available for pre-order now, priced at $599 or $629 for the shadow box option. Customer shipments will begin in June.
