A group returning from Las Vegas found themselves stranded in the wilderness after Google Maps apparently led them down the wrong path.
While watching the recent Formula 1, a team from California found themselves in an unexpected situation during their return process.
On November 19, Shelby Easler, her brother Austin, and their friends decided to use Google Maps to plan their route back to Los Angeles. The app suggested a different route to avoid the dust that caused severe traffic problems on Sunday, instead of taking Interstate 15, the main road connecting Southern California to Las Vegas.
Despite the irony of their choice, they assumed it would be safer and faster, since Google Maps showed they would save 50 minutes. However, due to their lack of experience with the road map to/from Las Vegas, they were unaware that the primary option was I-15.
Google Maps routed the car off the main highway, taking it on an off-road trail in the untamed Nevada desert. The Easler family's cars weren't the only ones straying from the established paths. In Shelby's popular TikTok video, a line of cars followed closely behind.

“The first driver who changed direction told us that the road disappears as you go up the mountain, and we should turn back, as the road leads nowhere. With a large truck, crossing the bushes and plants, he informed the other drivers to change direction,” Easler confessed.
The group found they couldn’t pinpoint their location, and the nearest town was Sandy Valley. They eventually called 911 after feeling “trapped,” but were told that the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was busy dealing with the dust on I-15. They then contacted a tow truck company, which sent trucks to help Easler’s car and the other trapped vehicles.
“The tow truck arrived around 5 p.m., so we were there all afternoon,” Easler confessed. “We ended up dropping the car off in Las Vegas, and the tow truck took it to a dealership service center. It was reported that the right rear tire was about to blow out, and the alignment was out of alignment. It was a pretty expensive repair.”
