New emoji coming in 2024could include vertical head shake, horizontal head shake, lime, palm tree, broken chain, brown mushroom, and more. The new characters may be included in the new Emoji 15.1, which will be approved by the Unicode Consortium in September.

There are 108 new directional emoji, with most of them consisting of emoji of people with multiple skin tones. Essentially, they use the existing emoji: person walking, person running, person kneeling, person with white cane, person in wheelchair, but add directional instructions, such as left and right.
Emoji 15.1 characters will be finalized in September 2023. After that, companies like Apple and Google will be able to adopt them on devices through future software updates. Notably, Apple usually takes several months to introduce new emoji. So, if they are approved in September, the company will likely not add them to its devices until 2024. The last emoji set was added in iOS 16.4, which was released in February 2023.
