These days, we use a lot of messaging apps to communicate with our family, friends, and colleagues. Keeping your conversations secure on WhatsApp is just as important, and the service offers end-to-end encryption . However, to ensure that people in your circle can’t read your conversations by taking your phone, WhatsApp added the app lock feature , which allowed users to lock the entire app to prevent unauthorized access . Expanding on the feature, WhatsApp recently launched a new Chat Lock feature that allows users to lock individual and group conversations.

What you need to know about WhatsApp Chat Lock?
- Allows you to lock individual conversations and group conversations
- Hides the contact or group from the regular Chat list in the app
- Hides message preview from notification panel
- Moves locked conversations to a Locked Chat section
- Allows locking of conversations with biometrics, PIN or password
To be able to use the new privacy feature, make sure you have the latest version of the WhatsApp app installed on your phone and that you have an active account.
To activate WhatsApp Chat Lock, follow these steps:
- Open the WhatsApp app on your phone
- Scroll down the chat list or search for the contact you want to individually lock.
- Open the contact's chat window and tap the name at the top
- Scroll down and tap on Lock chat
- Turn it on and authenticate using your screen lock
- Note that WhatsApp automatically uses your phone's screen lock method to lock conversations.

That's it! The specific conversation is now locked on WhatsApp thanks to the Chat Lock feature. Repeat the same process for other conversations you want to lock.
How to access locked conversations on WhatsApp?
All locked chats on WhatsApp are being moved to a new “Locked Chats” section. Swipe down from the chat list screen to access the Locked Chat option. Tap on it, verify, and you’ll see your locked chats.
