Roku is taking things to the next level with the launch of its new Home Monitoring System SE.
Roku is diving even deeper into smart home gear, and price is once again a major selling point. The company has introduced a Home Monitoring System SE that includes two entry sensors, a motion sensor, a hub, and a keyboard for $99.

As with previous products, Wyze co-developed the hardware. You can monitor activity on your phone, but Roku, as expected, is touting integration with its media players and compatible TVs. You can expand the system as needed, and an optional $100-a-year professional monitoring option uses Noonlight to provide live agent assistance.
“ Roku ’s new home monitoring system provides peace of mind and is easier than ever to set up, control and monitor,” said Mark Robins , vice president of Roku Smart Home . “We’re proud to further expand Roku ’s Smart Home lineup with affordable and enjoyable ways to keep every home safe.”
The Home Monitoring System SE is available today through Roku ’s website and Walmart stores , and will arrive on Walmart ’s website on May 15th along with a currently unpriced light strip and an outdoor solar panel. An updated version of the Roku OS that enables TV monitoring notifications (as well as camera history and voice control) is expected “in the coming weeks.”

The expansion of Home Monitoring System SE may seem odd for a company closely associated with streaming, but it comes at a critical time for the company. It continues to lay off workers as it struggles with a tough economy and focuses on projects it believes are more likely to pay off. Smart home products could help Roku complement its core product business while also competing with Amazon and others that already have a wide range of home gear.
