Discord: Uses OpenAI technology to improve its Clyde bot

Discord: Forum Channels are here to make things easier for users

Discord has now started using OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI technology to turn its existing bot, Clyde, into a chatbot. Clyde is intended to have conversations with users like ChatGPT and Bing AI, and is a broader push into AI in Discord, featuring AI-generated chat summaries and the ability for Discord admins to manage the technology to control servers.

Clyde will be available for free to certain Discord users as part of a public experiment on a limited number of servers, with alpha users starting next week.

Discord users will be able to call Clyde to ask questions, and the chatbot has the ability to create threads between friends to facilitate conversations. But it's not the same as chatbot , which means you won't be able to talk to your friends through the chatbot. Using it will be like having a conversation with someone close to you about football leagues and wanting to know when Tottenham last won a major trophy.

Although the Discord team is excited about this bot, there is a big risk. Since the chatbot has the same technology as ChatGPT, there is a high possibility that it will have the same reactions as it. That is, it will transmit incorrect or false information, make rude comments and generally have a bad experience for the user who interacts with it.

Beyond the dangers of misinformation, the presence of AI chatbots on Discord's servers, which often include a lot of young people and "gadget kids," could present some challenges to the company's AI ambitions. This means that some people will ignore warnings and try to provoke the chatbot into misbehaving.

Another feature Discord is working on for its AI is conversation summarization. This will make it easier for users in conversations on servers with large and continuous content to get a sense of what was said so they don't feel lost.

One place where AI could be useful is in the AutoMod feature for admins, which is designed to control spam and swearing. They plan to use language models from OpenAI to allow AutoMod to be more accurate. AutoMod AI is already available to some users.

Finally, another area where AI will be useful is in a prototype design that may be released in the future. The company has created a whiteboard on Discord, which was in high demand. With AI, the company aims to combine text with images so that users can create something new from the whiteboard with each other.
