Nintendo is one of the most powerful forces in the entertainment industry. Its booming games hardware business has generated more than $200 billion in revenue since the NES was released in 1983. Other figures that are equally astonishing: Nintendo has shipped more than 814 million devices over the past 38 years (it sold more than 533 million handhelds).
The software is where the real numbers lie. Nintendo has sold 5.318 billion games to date across all of its listed hardware lines. That includes every system from the original NES to the DS and the newer Switch.
