Taking a quick look at the Instagram followers of the planet's most famous influencers, one finds that the numbers are almost intimidating. Of course this is not shocking because it is known that fake profiles and bots are countless, resulting in a significant impact on the numbers we see.
It is worth noting that globally renowned Greek athletes such as Stefanos Tsitsipas and Giannis Antetokounmpo are on the list (9th and 5th place) but despite the percentage of fake followers, their Instagram accounts have a high follower engagement rate. This means that their followers interact with the profiles by liking, commenting, sharing, etc.

The existence of fake or «bot» followers does not necessarily mean that celebrities paid to acquire more followers.
