“I assumed I was having trouble with Messenger and Instagram until I searched for ‘Messenger down’ on Twitter,” one user wrote on Twitter. Recently, Facebook experienced another major outage. Users joked about the new problems, posting various memes.

Facebook quickly confirmed that Messenger was, indeed, down. “No, your wifi is not down. We’re working to get things back to normal as soon as possible. #messengerdown,” the official Messenger account tweeted on Wednesday.

This latest apparent outage of Instagram DMs and Messenger follows a massive outage that took place in October that resulted in all of Facebook and its services being down for many hours.

These days, however, outages are the least of Facebook-Meta's problems. The company has come under fire after former employee Frances Haugen revealed details about Instagram's negative effects on teenagers. Haugen's leaks have triggered a series of investigations into Facebook.
