YouTube is set to remove videos that spread misinformation about all vaccines, as it intensifies the suppression of harmful content that was published during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The video streaming website will remove content that claims any approved vaccine is dangerous and causes chronic health issues. According to previous guidelines, the platform demotes – essentially hides – videos that spread misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines or promote vaccine hesitancy.
Last year, YouTube implemented a ban on Covid-19 vaccine misinformation videos, which led to the removal of 130,000 videos. YouTube, which is owned by Google, has removed a total of 1 million videos for spreading general Covid-19 misinformation since the pandemic.
Matt Halprin, the global head of trust and safety at YouTube, said that misinformation about vaccines is a global problem.

Halprin said that the ban will be applied, for example, to content that claims that vaccines cause cancer, infertility or contain microchips. YouTube's move follows Facebook's decision last year to remove false claims about Covid-19 vaccines once they were debunked by public health experts.
