Andrew Bosworth will soon replace Mike Schroepfer, taking the position of CTO at Facebook.

Facebook's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Mike Schroepfer, announced on Wednesday that he will be stepping down from that position.
Schroepfer will move to a part-time and will be replaced in 2022 by Andrew “Boz” Bosworth, who currently heads Facebook’s hardware division.

“This is a difficult decision because I love Facebook so much and I’m excited about the future we’re building together,” Schroepfer wrote on his Facebook profile, adding that the change will allow him to spend more time with his family and his philanthropic work. However, Mike Schroepfer said he will remain deeply involved with Facebook by helping with key initiatives and continuing to drive investments in artificial intelligence, a critical technology.

As we mentioned above, the CTO position will soon be taken by Andrew “Boz” Bosworth. The choice of this person may indicate that Facebook is prioritizing the hardware part. Earlier this year, the company said that the metaverse, which is a virtual environment where people can meet, work and communicate, will be a major priority for the Oculus division. In fact, not long ago, the company announced new smart glasses in partnership with Ray-Ban and a new generation of Portal video-calling devices.
Mike Schroepfer has been working at Facebook since 2008. Initially, he was vice president of engineering, while in 2013 he became the company's CTO.

His new role at Facebook (part-time), after stepping down as CTO and being replaced by Andrew “Boz” Bosworth, will be a “senior fellow,” according to his post. In this role, he will be able to help recruit new talent, while also helping with artificial intelligence projects.
