At least seven new covid-19 cases were detected in the last two days in Wuhan, China, prompting city officials to state that everyone in the city will be subjected to coronavirus testing. Again.

The new covid-19 cases are the first outbreak of the extremely contagious disease in Wuhan since May 2020, when 11 million people in the city were tested in less than two weeks. Wuhan, the city where the COVID-19 pandemic began in late 2019, underwent a strict 76-day lockdown in early 2020. But the draconian measures allowed Wuhan residents to continue their lives normally until the summer of 2020.
China is completing mass testing by requiring samples from everyone in a given area and then mixing the samples together to save time and money on supplies. If a positive result comes out from a large batch, health workers can test each individual separately from that batch to determine who is actually infected.

The most recent mass testing for Covid-19 in China was carried out just last week in Nanjing, where 8.7 million of the city's 9.3 million residents were tested, according to CTGN. Forty-seven people tested positive and were placed in quarantine.
The Dongguan area was also mass-tested in June, after a few cases were identified. Contact tracers were able to locate 86 close contacts who entered quarantine, effectively suppressing the spread of the virus.
There were only 61 new Covid-19 cases detected on Monday across all of China, which includes 1.4 billion people. The overwhelming majority of the cases, 45, were found in Jiangsu province, according to the Chinese state media Xinhua. There were also 29 new cases from abroad, although people entering the country are required to quarantine before any freedom of movement is permitted. China reported no new deaths on Monday.
