A new patent filed by Nintendo suggests that a personalized rating system could be coming to the Nintendo Switch eShop. If implemented, the system could tailor a user's eShop browsing experience by suggesting games they're likely to be interested in playing.

The patent describes a system that can “create a base rating that is a function of gameplay data for a particular user…” In theory, this would allow the Nintendo Switch eShop to be better organized for each player.

How the patented system works seems very complicated, but to put it simply, it attempts to aggregate data from a variety of sources, including user reviews and ratings, as well as your personal preferences in terms of game genre. This data will in turn potentially be used to create a personalized section for you to browse – probably not unlike the “Recommended” section found in apps like Netflix and the Xbox Store.
While this is just a patent and not a feature that Nintendo will necessarily implement in reality, we really hope it does. The Nintendo Switch eShop desperately needs some kind of organization like this to help users easily find the games they're interested in.

Given that the Nintendo Switch eShop lacks key features enjoyed by its competitors, such as user ratings, this patent for eShop personalization would be more than welcome on an enhanced Nintendo Switch Pro device.
