In March, Qualcomm refreshed its Snapdragon 7 series with the launch of the Snapdragon 780G. Now, however, the company is bringing a new chip, the Snapdragon 778G. It is the successor to last year's Snapdragon 768G.

The Snapdragon 778G shares many of the core features of the Snapdragon 780G, but with some minor differences. The new chip features a faster CPU, a better modem with support for mmWave 5G, and support for faster memory. The Snapdragon 778G aims to deliver some of the top-notch features of the Snapdragon 8 series in a more affordable package.
In terms of technical details, the Snapdragon 778G is quite similar to the Snapdragon 780G. It has a similar CPU, with higher performance (40%) than the Snapdragon 768G. On the GPU side, the Snapdragon 778G comes with the Adreno 642L, which according to Qualcomm offers up to 40% faster graphics rendering than its predecessor.
When it comes to gaming, the chip supports select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, such as Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch, which offers up to 30% faster touch response rate in games.

Additionally, the Snapdragon 778G comes with the Spectra 570L Image Signal Processor. The triple 14-bit ISP allows for simultaneous capture of photos and videos from wide, ultrawide, and telephoto sensors. The Spectra 570L also supports Staggered HDR.
Although the Snapdragon 778G offers similar performance to the Snapdragon 780G, there is one area where the new chip excels: memory. The Snapdragon 778G supports LPDDR5 memory chips with capacities of up to 16 GB. In contrast, the Snapdragon 780G only supports LPDDR4 memory chips.
Finally, in terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 778G supports the FastConnect 6700 system, which enables support for WiFi 6/6E, 8×8 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5.2, and Snapdragon Sound suite. However, OEMs are free to use alternative WiFi/Bluetooth chips, so it is not certain that these features will be supported on every device.
