It seems that Facebook employees are not satisfied with Mark Zuckerberg 's inaction regarding Donald Trump 's provocative posts on the platform and are reacting.
On Monday, a group of Facebook employees organized and formally requested leave as a form of protest. According to the New York Times, the employees created an automated email to make it clear that they disagree with Facebook's stance on the US President's posts.
Employees did not hesitate to criticize the platform through their personal social media accounts.
In recent days, many demonstrations and protests have erupted across the country over the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. On Friday, Trump posted on social mediathreatening the protesters.
The Times notes that other employees have taken similar steps to express their displeasure. However, what everyone seems to agree on is that the company's stance is "the most serious challenge to Mr. Zuckerberg's leadership" in Facebook's history.
Mark Zuckerberg, for his part, made a post on Facebook last week explaining that they did not take any action against Donald Trump, as the company's policy is to allow as much freedom of expression as possible.
Twitter it supports violence.
Trump responded immediately on Twitter, even threatening to "shut down" social media.
"Unlike Twitter, it is not our policy to place warnings in front of posts that may incite violence, because we believe that if a post incites violence, it should be removed regardless of whether it is notable, even if it comes from a politician," Zuckerberg wrote.
It's clear that Facebook's response did not satisfy many of its employees.
The social media giant's problems have been brewing for some time. Facebook rolled out new rules last year that essentially allowed politicians to speak freely on many issues while keeping everyone else under surveillance. Employees were already against the company's decision at the time.
With the tense situation currently prevailing in the country, the balance is very delicate and Facebook certainly needs to be careful in its moves, since it has already received a lot of criticism from the public.
