Some popular Linux browsers , such as Konqueror, Falkon, and Qutebrowser, have been blocked by Google , as reported by Bleeping Computer . If you use any of the aforementioned browsers , there's a chance that you'll no longer be allowed to connect to Google services.
The ban was discovered by a Reddit, who posted his findings on the platform. His post caught the attention of several Linux users, who reported that they were unable to access Google services from certain Linux browsers.
As soon as users try to connect to Google using Konqueror, Falkon, or Qutebrowser, they see a message stating that the browser they are using is not secure.
The error message also contains a “Learn more” link, which redirects users to a Google support article, which lists the following possible reasons that may have led to Google services being blocked by a Linux browser:
- JavaScript is not supported or you have Javascript
- You have unsafe or unsupported extensions
- Use automation testing frameworks
- They are embedded in a different application
However, many users stated in the same post that they were able to connect from the aforementioned browsers, which makes it difficult to pinpoint the exact reason behind the issue that has arisen.
There are several theories as to why Google has blocked browsers. Some say it is an A/B test conducted by Google, while others say it is due to a specific version of QtWebEngine installed on the machines experiencing the issue.
