Android's popular file manager, Files Go, has been upgraded to offer faster file transfers, faster connections, and more secure file sharing.
Google has released a "significant upgrade" to the app's features, especially for sharing files with people nearby.
Files Go was originally designed to help users in India cope with limited storage space and slow network speeds. But since it was launched in China and made available globally, it has been used by about 10 million users.
Since then, Google has been steadily updating it, adding new features that it is testing through a beta channel.
What the upgraded app brings
The nearby file sharing feature now has its own tab called "Share", which comes to make it easier to access.
Google also says that connecting to other nearby users will be much faster. The app will automatically use the fastest available channel to send files, so if Wi-Fi Direct on 5GHz is available, it will automatically use it.
According to Google, some users will be able to transfer files at speeds of up to 490Mbps , or about four times faster than the previous limit of 125Mbps. At that speed, Google estimates that users can send 100 “original quality” photos in less than five seconds.
The app also uses WPA2 encryption to protect files moving over the network for sharing.
As for saving space, Google had already updated the app to allow users to delete photos from their device that they had uploaded to Google Photos.
