German security institute AV-TEST has conducted a new survey to determine the best antivirus solutions for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709). The results were a bit strange.
Just like in previous tests, Kaspersky and McAfee products topped the charts. But VIPRE Security also managed to grab the maximum score with 18 points.
All three products managed to grab 6 points each in the protection, performance and usability categories, according to AV-TEST's tests.
There are several other products that got close to the maximum score, including AhnLab's V3 Internet Security, Avira Antivirus Pro, Bitdefender Internet Security and Trend Micro Internet Security.
All of them scored 5.5 points in one of the three tests mentioned above.
ESET Internet Security got the worst score this time, which is surprising, since the company currently develops one of the most advanced security solutions in the world.
The application only scored 15 points: 5.5 for protection, 4 for performance and 5.5 for usability.
On the other hand, Microsoft Windows Defender's performance seems to be much better than in previous tests, which proves that the company is improving its security application. As you know, Windows Defender comes pre-installed on Windows 10 and offers default protection on systems when you do not use any third-party application.
In this new round of testing, Windows Defender scored 15.5 points, so it surpassed ESET's product, with 6 points for protection, 5.5 for performance and 4 for usability.
According to detailed test results, Windows Defender blocked 98.9% of zero-day malware attacks in the November survey and 100% in the December tests, causing a 6% slowdown when launching popular websites. For comparison, Kaspersky's security product achieved similar results in detecting zero-day malware, but caused a 13% slowdown in browsing.
