Atom text editor parallel coding in real time

Since its release (three years ago), GitHub's Atom text editor has been a formidable open source application for developers, alongside other beloved cross-platform applications like Sublime Text.

If you're not already using it, you might be more interested now that it supports collaboration with other apps and other developers in real time.Atom text editor

Atom's new text editor feature, Teletype, lets you collaborate with other developers on a project to write or edit code simultaneously with atomic cursors and zero latency.

GitHub says you'll be able to use your own key bindings, packages, and themes while working with Teletype, so it won't feel like you're using someone else's IDE. The company also says your data is transferred over encrypted peer-to-peer connections, so you don't have to worry about anyone watching what you write in your code.

The app is still in beta, and so it doesn't include some related features that could make collaboration easier, such as a chat window so you can discuss changes and additions with your team in the same app.

Let's hope this feature will be added in the future.

With the introduction of Teletype and integration with Git and GitHub, the Atom text editor is shaping up to be a very good choice for developers across a variety of disciplines.

You can try it out immediately by downloading the installer from here, along with the Teletype package from this page.
