Cookies: The end of warnings is coming

All internet users in Europe have now learned to live with website warnings about the use of Cookies. Usually a pop‑up window appears that warns you that yes, the site uses cookies … exactly like almost every other page on the web. Cookies

If your warning seems unnecessary and ineffective, you are not the only one thinking that. However, some believe it is necessary and all of them are located in the European Union….

Webmasters and online users in the EU probably should have been dealing with cookie warnings for more than a decade.

We've been seeing them for so long, no one is satisfied, but no one does anything to change the status quo.

But it seems there is hope for a less intrusive European web. A recently proposed update to the original law would reportedly make warning banners obsolete and unnecessary, forcing websites to “read” and “respect” each browser’s settings that prohibit cookie tracking.

The new law will also force websites to require explicit consent before startingcookie-based tracking, meaning the current warning banners will not be necessary unless the website wants to do some specific tracking.

However, this proposal is not easy, as the technical changes would make it more difficult for websites to offer conveniences such as login sessions or a shopping cart.

Websites could also face a significant loss in advertising revenue, which they are sure will not let fall, the interest representatives of the involved groups.

All of this will be presented before the European Commission as it has already begun to examine the proposal. If the amendment to the law is approved, it will come into force from May 2018, and will bring many other changes to privacy laws.
