The G Suite Advanced Protection Program promises that if you're part of it, you may never have to change your password again.
Companies using G Suite around the world can add high-risk users to the program, offering them a level of security similar to what Google provides to its employees.
The main reason the G Suite Advanced Protection Program provides such levels of securityis because users must use a FIDO-compliant security key like the Google Titan key.
In practice, these keys have helped Google completely eliminate phishing attacks against its employees. We all understand how positive this is. But an equally important advantage is that Google employees have not had to change passwords for years.
Google product management manager Karthik Lakshminarayanan, when asked, said that he has been working at the company for the past three years and has never had to change passwords. In a similar case, when he worked at Microsoft , he was required to change them every 90 days. It should be noted here that Microsoft recently stated that the policy of frequently changing passwords is outdated and should be avoided.
Of course, it's understandable that it's not particularly feasible to have all employees use security keys. But the G Suite program does this primarily for accounts . So essentially, organizations just need to identify which users are truly high-risk and enroll them in the G Suite program.
The G Suite Advanced Protection Program launched in 2017 and was initially offered to politicians, journalists, high-ranking executives, etc. Users enrolled in the program will be required to use a FIDO- compliant security key . To improve usability, enrolled users can pair an Android phone with the security key.
According to Lakshminarayanan, G Suite manages all the apps, whether they are trusted or not. If the user wants to expand the list of apps, they can consult with the admin and add what they need.
