The largest Q&A site for developers has been hacked

website A new attack by hackers targeted Stack Overflow, the largest Q&A site dealing with programming and design topics.

The breach was revealed by the site itself, through a post. The post stated that some hackers managed to breach the site's internal network and gain access to it.

“There was an attack on Stack Overflow over the weekend,” said Mary Ferguson, vice president of Engineering at Stack Overflow.

Authorities determined that the breach occurred on May 11. Hackers gained access to some of the site's systems. Investigations have already been conducted to determine the extent of the breach and some vulnerabilitiesthat helped the hackers penetrate the site's network. At this time, the necessary actions are being taken to correct these vulnerabilities.

On the positive side, the investigation so far has not revealed any evidence that hackers have access to user data. At least that's what Ferguson claims.

At this time, investigations are ongoing, so we don't yet know all the details of the breach. The site promised that more information will be provided once all evidence is collected and the investigations are complete.

As we said above, Stack Overflow is the largest Q&A site for programming topics. It was founded in 2008 and currently has over 10 million registered users. Every year it conducts research, the results of which offer important information for understanding the state of the modern programming ecosystem. Included are data that may concern programming languages, salaries, the various tools used by programmers, working conditions and much more.

Stack Overflow isn't the first Q&A site to fall victim to hacking. In December, Q&A platform Quora also announced a security incident in which a group of hackers gained access to account information, passwords, emails, messages, and other information, affecting 100 million users.
