Kodi is one of the best ways to watch movies for free. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to break the law to watch movies for free on Kodi.
Sure, there are dozens of illegal movie add-ons for Kodi out there. You can often watch the latest Hollywood blockbusters before they hit theaters or right after. But why take the risk when there are so many other ways to watch free movies on Kodi without breaking the law?
Below we will look at the best legal Kodi add-ons for free movies.
Sony Crackle
Crackle has been a popular app among others lately. In recent years, Sony has invested a lot more money into Crackle, and so the service seems to be performing better than ever.
There are many free movies that run ads, some TV shows, and original content. Like Netflix, content is added and removed on a monthly basis.
Also, like Netflix, content varies depending on where you are. In the US, Crackle has distribution deals with 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Miramax, Universal Studios, and many others.
Tubi TV
Tubi TV is another Kodi add-on for movies with ads. Of course, the movies are completely free. The add-on currently has over 12,000 movies and TV shows in its collection.
Ads appear during movies in mini-breaks and not just at the beginning or end of the video.
The quality of the movies available is very high. Tubi TV collaborates with studios such as: Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Lionsgate.
The add-on is not available in the official Kodi repo and you will need to download it from GitHub to install it manually.
If you want to access all the content, you will need to use a reliable VPN to be able to change geographical locations.
Popcornflix
Popcornflix has nothing to do with the illegal P2P streaming app, Popcorn Time. Popcornflix is completely legal and is available in the official Kodi repo.
If you want to watch free movies on Kodi, Popcornflix is a must-have. It offers mostly independent feature films, though you’ll also find original content and a few web shows.
The service is currently only available in the United States and Canada (see VPN), although the developers plan to make the app available in other countries in the future.
FilmRise
FilmRise is a popular YouTube channel for people who want to watch free movies online, but it is also available as a Kodi add-on through the official repo.
As a company, FilmRise buys film distribution rights from all media outlets.
Some recent releases that FilmRise is showing include Manifesto (starring Cate Blanchett) across North America, James Franco's The Vault in the U.S., and A Love Story starring Nicolas Cage.
Most recently, FilmRise signed streaming deals with ITV Studios, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and Warner Bros in January 2019, meaning the service's film catalog is now larger than ever.
SnagFilms
Like Popcornflix, SnagFilms is another Kodi add-on that specializes in offering free movies and documentaries from independent producers.
Since its launch in 2008, the library has now grown to over 5,000 videos. The best ones are documentaries from National Geographic.
British Council Film
British Council Film has dozens of old British films available for free. Specifically, the add-on provides access to the British Council film collection. Some are in black and white.
Internet Archive
The Internet Archive is a well-known repository of music, videos, and TV shows that it distributes legally and for free. There are more than 5,000 regular movies and 3,000 short films. (You will find the download link below)
BIGSTAR Movies
BIGSTAR Movies offers one of the most extensive selections of free (and legal) movies on Kodi.
On the main website, you will see both free and premium content. Unfortunately, only the free content is available through the Kodi add-on and there is no option to connect to the premium portal.
Like the Internet Archive add-on, it’s available via the SuperRepo repo. Simply go to Krypton > All to download the ZIP.
The legal Kodi add-ons we mention above should satisfy any fanatic cinephile.
