Following information from SecNews reader Fotis Mavrakis on the friendly website www.RetroComputers.gr, the Registry of domain names with the endings [.gr] and [.ελ] suffered an attack on its information systems. This attack is part of a more general effort, at an international level, to negatively affect the operation of Internet domain name registries. The investigation of the incident did not reveal any evidence of a leak of personal data.
As part of the effort of the Registry of domain names with the ending [.gr] and [.ελ] to ensure the integrity of its data, as well as to protect the beneficiaries of the internet names, it proceeded to immediately change the authorization codes of the domain names [.gr] and [.ελ].
Additionally, as a preventive protection measure, but also more generally for the convenience of beneficiaries, we inform you that the process for changing the authorization codes of domain names [.gr] and [.ελ] will soon be modified.
If you wish to be notified of the new password or change it, you can contact your registrar.
The organization has sent a mass message to all customers regarding the attack, while it must also inform the Personal Data Protection Authority (www.dpa.gr) about the leak if personal data was intercepted.
SecNews contacted the Greek Domain Name Registry (.gr) and we inform you that the details of the attack are still under investigation.
