Google has just released a new feature for creating Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites, or Forums. If you're a frequent user of documents or just wish there was an easier and faster way to create new documents, Google is here to help.
The company introduced the “.new” domain to create Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites or Forums instantly, simply by typing in the search box.
Type “service name.new” and you’re good to go! You’ll then be taken to a new document/slide/sheet, etc.
For example, let's say you want to create a new sheet. The usual steps are to go to the home page and click on “Create New Spreadsheet”.
But with this new trick from Google, you can simply type “sheet.new” and you’ll instantly create a blank sheet!
The company has also acquired every domain variation you can think of. For example, “sheet.new” can also be typed as “sheets.new” or “spreadsheet.new.”
Similarly, to create a new slide, you can type “slide.new”, “slides.new”, “deck.new” and “presentation.new”.
Even if you make a typo, the company has made sure you get the correct result. Just make sure you don't type "www" in the domain context.
Immediately after the new feature was announced on Twitter, many users enthusiastically welcomed it, calling it a game-changer. Some even went a step further and started asking for other shortcuts, such as instant email creation via “e-mail.new” or “Draw.new” for drawing.
