Facebook's new AI tool automatically debugs code

toolAt Facebook, the company announced an artificial intelligence tool called “SapFix.” The tool works to the benefit of Facebook engineers, as it automatically performs code debugging.

The hybrid AI tool automatically generates fixes for specific bugs in Facebook's code and then recommends them to engineers for approval and implementation.

According to the company, SapFix is already being used to send powerful, stable patches to millions of Android devices that use Facebook.

SapFix runs with or without Sapienz, which is Facebook's intelligent automated software testing tool. Sapienz identifies a specific section of code that was involved in a code crash, which is then passed to SapFix. The AI tool has a number of methods to generate a fix patch.

Facebook plans to make SapFix open source in the future for the engineering community.

Facebook adds hardware partner support for Glow compiler

Obviously, SapFix isn't the only advancement Facebook has announced regarding machine learning technology.

Facebook is officially adding partner support for its Glow Compiler, which is used to accelerate machine learning hardware. Cadence, Esperanto, Intel, Marvell, and Qualcomm Technologies Inc, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, are now part of the Glow project that is dramatically improving silicon products.

Glow is a compiler software that helps design AI and ML-ready products much faster than previous methodologies.

While tech giants like Apple and Google manufacture their own silicon chips, it appears Facebook is going to outsource the manufacturing of high-performance chips, using its own ML code.
