A shooting at a live televised gaming tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday afternoon left two people dead and eleven injured.
The shooter, 24-year-old David Katz from Baltimore, began shooting nonstop around him during the EA Sports' Madden NFL 19 tournament, resulting in the tragic deaths of two participants. The reason for his unthinkable act? He was banned from the game. Then, the young gamer, clearly irritated, decided to "get revenge" on his opponents by shooting anyone in front of him. After his heinous act, he ended his own life.
According to police information, the young killer had legally purchased the two guns in Jacksonville.
Elijah Clayton, 22, and Taylor Robertson, 28, the father of a newborn girl, were the shooter's two victims.
According to reports, people who knew 24-year-old David Katz speak of a lonely young man without social connections and quite a videogame fanatic.
In a statement posted on Twitter Sunday night, Electronic Arts described the incident as “an act of violence that we strongly condemn.” The company added that it intends to stand with the victims of the tragedy and will fight alongside law enforcement to ensure that such tragedies never happen again.
