Apple is hosting an education event on Tuesday, showcasing “creative new ideas for educators and students.” While there have been rumors that a cheaper MacBook will arrive soon, it looks like Apple will focus on the iPad next week. Bloomberg reports that a “low-cost iPad” will be announced alongside new education software next week.
Previously, rumors suggested that Apple was preparing to launch a new budget iPad for $259 as it attempts to prevent losing ground to both Google and Microsoft in the US education market. A cheaper iPad would help boost Apple's education ambitions, especially since price is a key factor in selling devices to schools and students.
Bloomberg also reports that a cheaper MacBook laptop is still in development and will likely replace the MacBook Air at a price point of less than $1,000. Apple hasn't significantly refreshed the MacBook Air since 2010, and the model it currently sells is extremely outdated, given its price tag of $999. However, a cheaper MacBook isn't expected until later this year.
