Microsoft Windows 10 users will finally be able to reset their account passwords from the lock screen, while the company is reportedly currently testing a feature that would allow password recovery with the help of its digital assistant Cortana.
The new feature is already available in the latest preview build of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, and the new password recovery option appears next to the sign-in options link.
As MSPU, Microsoft has designed the entire process to be very intuitive, with a wizard that guides users through the process when they click on “I forgot my password.” Cortana asks for information to recover their password, such as a different email address, a phone number, or a Microsoft Authenticator verification code.
Once these details are provided, Microsoft will allow you to choose a new password for your account and ultimately allow you to sign in to Windows 10.
Currently the feature is only available in Microsoft's latest test build, but with the release of the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update in September, everyone will be able to use it.
Resetting passwords for Microsoft Accounts in Windows 10 is something that users of the operating system have repeatedly requested, because it was almost impossible to log into their systems unless they had another device connected to the internet.
Microsoft is reportedly already very close to finalizing the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and is preparing to launch the final Bug Bash before its public release. This means that most of the new features we have seen in the test builds will be integrated and the upcoming builds will focus mainly on bug fixes.
The Bug Bash will start this coming Friday and will last for a full week. During this time, Microsoft will record user feedback and observations to analyze later. This way, it will consider which features need improvement before the final release of the operating system.
