The days when we only used the phone to call someone who lives in another city are long gone, with Apple getting closer to changing the way we use our smartphones once again. 
Apple's augmented reality framework called ARKit was recently announced and turns the iPhone into an advanced device whose camera can serve unlimited purposes.
So far we have seen some of the applications of the new framework, but there are still several that will surely excite us.
Take AR Measure, for example. This app turns your iPhone into a tape measure, and all you have to do is draw a line between two points to calculate the distance between them. Clearly, the virtual tape measure is just as accurate as the real thing.
“AR Measure turns your phone into a ruler that you can use anytime, anywhere. Simply point your phone at the point you want to measure and tap the screen. The app uses the power of augmented reality to measure the distance between points in 3D space. So, you can measure things like furniture, doors, desks, carpets, paintings, and chairs,” explain the app’s experts.
Additionally, you can use ARKit-based applications to perform various actions such as drawing in the air with 3D support and placing objects that look completely realistic.
All of these features are expected to be available to everyone with the release of iOS 11 in September. It should be noted that ARKit has already been tested by developers with beta versions of the operating system.
