The Surface Phone resembles more a piece of our imagination than a device that Microsoft is currently working on, but that does not necessarily mean that die‑hard Windows Phone fans cannot stop dreaming of an ultra‑powerful device that could help in platform preservation.
This is the case of the Surface Note, a new concept that envisions the Surface Phone based on existing patents and ideas that have circulated recently, including a new hinge and folding screens that would allow it to double as a tablet.
Posted on Behance by Ryan Smalley, the Surface Note concept envisions how a typical smartphone can transcend that form factor with new customizable technologies, allowing it to transform into a tablet and notebook if needed.
The idea also borrows some concepts from devices that are currently released or expected to be released soon, but have already leaked, such as the vertical dual-camera system expected to go live on the iPhone 8 this autumn.
There is also a new pen, which the designer calls the Surface Note Pen, although we doubt that if such a project ever gets the green light, it could be called anything other than the Surface Pen, given the effort Microsoft is putting into this device.
If we set aside concept ideas and turn to the real chances of seeing such a device in production, it is hard to believe that this exact device will ever get the green light, although there are rumors that Microsoft is already working on a reboot of the mobile platform, with a new phone also scheduled.
The Surface Phone has already been rumored to be a truly innovative device, with Microsoft itself trying to develop a smartphone with this model, and recent patents have shown that the company is considering more the creation of a new form factor based on the traditional phone.
The company's executives have suggested that if a new phone is ever created, it could be something no one can imagine at this point, with CEO Satya Nadella himself promising the final mobile device.
