Facebook has just announced that it will be rolling out two new features to its Messenger app for Android and iOS. The features are already starting to appear to Messenger users around the world.
Facebook's reactions on Messenger will allow users to express themselves in a fun way by choosing from a range of emojis. The "new" feature is similar to the ear that already exists on Facebook posts.
With these emojis, you will be able to choose a reaction that expresses love, a smile, surprise, sadness, anger, approval or disapproval. Among the emojis, Facebook has also added the thumbs up emoji to Messenger, but it is not available for News Feed posts.
Facebook also added the ability for Messenger users to see how many people are reacting to a message and be notified of the reactions of each member of a group. In addition, a small animation will appear within the conversation every time someone reacts to a message.
Facebook's new update will allow you to send notifications even when the Messenger app is not open. Reactions will be available in group conversations as well as one-on-one conversations in messages between friends.
Facebook has also introduced mentions, or as we know them from Twitter, Mentions. The feature comes as a way to notify users that their name has been mentioned in a conversation. You simply (like Twitter) enter the @ symbol followed by the person's name.
