Microsoft has released an updated version of its Skype extension for Google Chrome, which adds video calling integration to Gmail, Outlook, and Twitter.
The browser extension is already available from the Google Chrome web store. Until now, the extension allowed you to share the sites you visit with your Skype contacts.
Today's Skype for Google Chrome update improves the functionality of the extension.
Microsoft's post on the official Skype blog lists all the changes. The changes include the ability to add Skype call links to messages, calendar events, or Twitter.
The extension supports Gmail, Outlook, and Twitter for now. You can add the “join my Skype video call” link to emails in Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar, or Outlook events.
Let's clarify that when we write Outlook, we are referring to Outlook.com, the web-based instant messaging service, and not Outlook, the desktop application.
The Skype extension adds a new button to the service's interface where users can click to add a call link to a message.
It works in a similar way for Twitter, except you can add the link to your Twitter messages directly from the button you see in the image above.
Chrome users who have the older version of the extension installed may have already received the update.
If you don't have it, you can download it from the Chrome Web Store.
The extension is also available for Firefox, but Microsoft doesn't mention anything about an updated version of the Firefox add-on in its announcement.
