Samsung announced a motion controller for the Gear VR during Mobile World Congress, which finally addresses the device's biggest problem.
The controller resembles the HTC Vive remote. On the front are the home, back, and volume buttons, while on the back is the trigger button, as well as a clickable trackpad. The device itself has an accelerometer, a gyrometer, and a magnetic sensor.
It is powered by two AAA batteries, which the company claims can provide 40 days of battery life with two hours of daily use. There is also a strap on the new device to hold the controller.
It's about time Samsung released an official controller. The Gear VR has some of the best immersive experiences compared to the Rift or Vive, but it uses a small touchpad that's cumbersome.
You could of course use a Bluetooth controller, but VR often works better with motion controls.
Samsung hasn't announced a price or release date, but hopefully the new device will be included with all future versions of the Gear VR.
