No longer a company that prioritizes speed and immediacy, Facebook has finally released its new emoji for desktop and mobile.
So those who have been eagerly awaiting the latest addition to emoji don't have to wait any longer. Emojipedia reports that all Facebook website users now have access to the social media platform's entire new set of emoji designs.
The company began rolling out the icon update in stages, starting in September of last year. So far, only website users have access to the full range of emoji. People using Facebook will have to wait a little longer to enjoy all the new icons.
Of course, the updated version may not make it to the apps at all. With Messenger in particular, it's possible that Facebook is intentionally keeping the platform's visual language separate, in an effort to distinguish it as its own thing. After all, Messenger only got a unique emoji in June 2016.
When asked about how soon these plans might appear in the mobile ecosystem, the company did not provide any answers.
It's worth noting that the latest update includes a full range of skin tones, as well as completely new icons for Facebook. The now-available face palm seems particularly important these days, as it looks certain to be that kind of year this year.
